ABOUT SHELL ECO-MARATHON
2019 - Present
Eco-Marathon powered by Shell is a competition that pushes highschool and university students into innovation in order to generate environmentally friendly solutions for road-going transportation vehicles. Currently, the 34th Annual Eco-Marathon has started. This competition is divided into 2 categories depending on the vehicle type. Teams can choose to participate in either category. The competition allows three types of fuel: Petrol/Diesel, Electric and Hydrogen Fuel Cell.
This year we found out about this competition and wanted to compete in it. Yet we were aware of our inexperience regarding this topic. That’s why we dedicated the 2019-2020 term to learning all about these cars and how they are manufactured; and producing our first prototype.
First, we evaluated and compared the three different types of power sources to find the most future-proof and efficient, and decided that electric power was our best option. Then, we decided on the category we wanted to compete in. Since our dream car was intended to be for the real world and associated with this industry, we opted for the Urban Concept Class. By this time, we had quite a team, so we started learning about all the parts of a car and how we could use everything in our favor to increase efficiency. We hope to compete in the 35th Annual Eco-Marathon event (2020-2021) and we are working hard for it.
